Fire Action Notice
If you discover a fire:
- Raise the alarm immediately — shout "FIRE" and alert everyone on site.
- Call 999 and ask for the Fire Service. Give the address: Paddock Farm, Harlow, Essex CM17 9HP.
- Begin evacuating the dogs using leads — do not delay to collect belongings.
- Move to the assembly point at the car park, keeping dogs under control at all times.
- Check everyone is accounted for — staff, dogs and visitors — against the day's registers.
Do not:
- Re-enter any building for any reason.
- Open doors that feel hot.
- Leave dogs off-lead outside a secure area.
Smoke detectors are fitted in Barn 1, Barn 2 and the Site Office. Alarms are tested weekly and the test log is kept in the office.

First Aid
People
- The human first aid kit is kept in the Site Office.
- For serious injury call 999 first.
- All injuries — however small — must be recorded in the Accident Book in the office.
- Report all incidents to the Site Manager the same day.
Dogs
- The canine first aid kit is kept in the Site Office with a dated contents list.
- For urgent veterinary help call Kew Vets — 01279 422 066.
- Move an injured dog to the isolation area and monitor continuously.
- Contact the owner and record everything on the dog's record in ProPet.
All first aid given must be recorded — who, what, when, and the outcome.

Accident & Incident Reporting
You must report:
- Every injury to any person — staff, visitor or contractor.
- Every dog injury, escape, fight or bite.
- Every near-miss — anything that could have caused harm but didn't.
How to report:
- Make the area safe and give first aid if needed.
- Tell the Site Manager straight away.
- Complete an Incident / Accident Report form (kept in the office and printable from the manual app) before the end of the day.
- Serious workplace injuries are reportable under RIDDOR — the Site Manager or Owner will report to the HSE. Never assume someone else has done it.
If in doubt, report it. No one is ever disciplined for reporting an honest accident or near-miss.

COSHH — Hazardous Substances
- Cleaning chemicals are stored in the locked chemical store — never in dog areas.
- Always read the label and follow the safety data sheet before using any chemical.
- Wear the PPE provided (gloves as a minimum) when diluting or using chemicals.
- Never mix chemicals — especially bleach with anything else.
- The COSHH folder with all safety data sheets is kept in the office — check it before using a new product.
- Report spills, splashes on skin or in eyes to the Site Manager immediately and rinse with clean water for at least 10 minutes.
- Every chemical on site must be listed on the COSHH Chemical Inventory.

Visitors & Contractors
- All visitors and contractors must sign in and out at the office using the Visitor Sign-In Sheet.
- Visitors must be accompanied at all times in dog areas.
- Read and follow the health & safety notes on the sign-in sheet before entering the site.
- Do not open gates, doors or crates unless a member of staff asks you to.
- Do not feed or pet any dog without staff permission.
- Children under 16 are not permitted in dog areas.
- In an emergency, follow staff instructions and go straight to the assembly point in the car park.

See Something? Say Something.
Everyone is responsible for health & safety — not just managers.
Report straight away if you see:
- Damaged fencing, gates, latches or crates.
- Slip, trip or fall hazards — wet floors, trailing leads, ice.
- Broken or faulty equipment.
- Chemicals left out or unlabelled containers.
- A dog showing signs of illness, injury or stress.
- Anything that just doesn't look right.
Tell the Site Manager or any senior member of the team. If you can make it safe yourself, do — then report it so it can be fixed properly and recorded.
Health & Safety law poster ("Health and Safety Law — What you need to know") is displayed alongside this board, as required by law.

Food Bowl — Feeding Area
Every dog, own bowl:
- Each dog is fed from its own named bowl — never share bowls between dogs.
- Check the dog's ProPet record before feeding — diet, allergies, portion size and any medication mixed with food.
- Feed dogs separately or in their own areas to avoid food guarding and stealing.
Washing up:
- Wash bowls after every use in hot soapy water, rinse and air-dry in the kitchen.
- Bowls that are chipped, cracked or damaged must be thrown away and replaced.
- Clean bowls are stored in the kitchen — dirty bowls never go back on the shelf.
- Wash your hands before and after handling bowls or preparing food.
Water:
- Fresh water available at all times, checked and topped up through the day.
- Water buckets and bowls are emptied, cleaned and refilled daily.
Record appetite, eating or feeding problems on the Daily Welfare Register and report anything unusual to the Site Manager.
