Daily Welfare Register
Purpose
This register is the primary tool for monitoring the health and welfare of every dog in our care throughout the day. Hourly checks ensure that signs of illness, injury, stress, or behavioural changes are identified early and acted upon promptly. Completion of this register is a mandatory licence condition and a cornerstone of our welfare standards.
1. Hourly Check Requirements
Every dog must be visually assessed at least once per hour. Each check must evaluate:
- Ears & Nose: Any discharge, swelling, redness, or unusual odour
- Illness & Injury: Limping, visible wounds, bleeding, vomiting, diarrhoea, coughing, sneezing
- Stress, Fear & Anxiety: Excessive panting (when not exercising), trembling, cowering, hiding, lip licking, whale eye, tucked tail, attempting to escape
- Aggression: Growling, snapping, lunging, stiff posture, resource guarding
- General Demeanour: Energy levels, engagement with other dogs, response to staff interaction
Mandatory Reporting
If any issue is noted during an hourly check, the incident must be followed up with an Incident Report on ProPet (EDDC-POL-020) and reported to the manager on duty before any other action is taken.
